Backpacks are back...

The title of this post is not really true because backpacks never went anywhere but we thought it was cute nonetheless! Spring is rearing it's pretty little head for the Northern hemisphere in less than two weeks and we kind of correlate the warmer temperatures with more fun. Everything that was dormant comes alive and everyone is out and about enjoying the warmer weather and new fashion trends.

What does this have to do with backpacks? Well, in our heads a backpack is the perfect bag (other than the leopard clutch) for those fun little spontaneous moments during the spring and summer months.  We're not talking about those backpacks from your high school years where you stuffed your books in, but stylish and chic ones for grown-ups. Fill your stylish backpack with an extra pair of flip flops, graphic tees, sunscreen lotion, lip-gloss, sunnies and all the things that say spring and summer is here again!

Blue jeans + white tee

There is something about blue jeans and a white tee that is sort of Americana. It's a classic look and perfect for a weekend  running errands or for an afternoon lunch with the girls. You can dress it up with heels and a blazer or be more laid back with flats and a simple statement necklace. Taking it a step further, we love the look of ripped blue jeans. The distressed  ripped, and torn look does not only look edgy but it can be kind of sexy!

An everyday clutch!

We love a good pair of leopard print heels or flats, actually... anything with leopard print. This is one print that is always in season and will probably never go out of style (hopefully not because that will be a sad day!). If you're daring and willing, this print goes with just about every outfit in your closet, from bright colors, to plaid, to sequins! Imagine having a leopard print clutch big enough to carry as an everyday bag, especially in the summer when the weather permits everyone to take a stroll in the park, go to an outdoor concert, or go out for an ice cream treat. Who has time to change purses when all the fun is going on outside right?

Wearing bermuda shorts in Bermuda!

Bermuda shorts, aka dress or walking shorts have been around since World War II. The hem of these shorts hit right above or below the knee and can be cuffed or un-cuffed. The British army wore these shorts while serving in tropical British colonies, including Bermuda. They would cut their pants off at the bottom half because of the intense heat and the rest as they say is history.

These iconic shorts bring on happy feelings of spring and summer. We remember wearing them in high school and are glad to see that this trend is back for spring 2013! It's a super easy breezy look to wear. These cool girl shorts are chic and are a far cry from the way the British army wore them. They are definitely family friendly and with the right pair, they can be figure flattering. Gone are the boy scout and preppy looking shorts, we now have an update on this classic look with an assortment of styles.

Spring 2013 runway:

Nails inspired by the runway!

Have your manicures become a little boring with the seasons hottest trends like neons and pastels? If so, there's inspiration all around for a new fancy mani. And if you're still loving the neons and pastels, that's okay; they can still be used as part of that inspiration.

Sometimes runway fashion should, well... run away (we couldn't help it), and sometimes it could actually be used as inspiration. More specifically, on your nails! It's like having couture at your fingertips!

A fashion maxim!

Black and white horizontal stripes are such a classic and chic pattern to have in your wardrobe for all seasons. You can layer a stripe shirt with a blazer and scarf during the winter months or wear it casually with a statement necklace and shorts during the summer months. But for the longest time, women were afraid to wear stripes because they tend to make you look broader. This may or may not be true (we got for not!), but not all stripes are created equal.

Find the stripe that works for your body type. For example, if you're tall and/or plus size go for a bigger and wider stripe and if you're petite go for smaller and narrow stripes. But rules are meant to be broken anyway right, especially when it comes to fashion. Have fun and experiment and see what works for you.
