Vintage tee!

It's the one trend that never gets old or goes out of style, the vintage tee shirt. They are a great way to stay casual, but still be funky and show off your fun style personality. They pay homage to your favorite band, a witty saying or Saturday morning cartoons from your childhood. This is the perfect casual weekend look while running errands or hanging out with your friends and family.
There are pre-fabricated shirts that are sold at stores like Forever 21 or ASOS but if you want an authentic vintage tee shirt, you can buy it at your local vintage shop, thrift store, flea market or an online store that caters to vintage tee shirts.
It's a statement on its own, but you can dress up a vintage tee with a statement necklace, hoop earrings, bangles or even a vintage brooch. Mix it with new styles like a blazer or skirt for a more polished look. You can wear it fitted, off the shoulder or with a belt. Find the best look that works for your personal style and shape and rock on!

The test of time

No matter the trend du jour, there are always those classic pieces that stood the test of time. They always look great, are versatile, and have everlasting style.

The timeless staples:

Trench coat:
There's a certain type of art in the trench coat. It's the ultimate symbol of chic and can be worn over a simple shirt and jeans or a fancy dress for effortless chic. The most common color for a trench is a beige but there are many other colors like red, blue, black and even patterns like floral and stripes.

Basic white tee:
This is an American classic that goes with the perfect pair of blue jeans. Be sporty chic in a white tee with a dressy skirt or casual chic by paring one with a blazer. You can always find a way to wear the white tee.

Ballet flats:
Give your feet a much needed break from heels with a simple ballet flat. Go for a pop of color with a colored flat, a printed flat with leopard or simple with black. There are a lot of ways to wear a flat so find one that works for you.

Cashmere cardigans:
This is one staple that is adaptable in any situation, whether in the office, with a cocktail dress, or by itself.  Brights and patterns are fun for the season, like the pictures below, but black, navy, beige and grey can go a long way in your wardrobe.

White Jeans:
A more glamorous look to the classic blue jean. It's a staple that can be worn before and after Labor Day because it's the epitome of effortlessly cool. Wearing white jeans can freshen up your look and give you a clean crisp look.

Shift Dress:
Jackie O was a fashion icon and made the shift dress popular in the 1960's just by wearing one on her Life magazine cover. This lady like dress is a staple that is very easy to wear. You can pair it with other staples like the ballet flat and cashmere cardigan and look polished.

What are some of your favorite timeless staples? What other timeless staples that can stand the test of time (LBD, blue jeans, tuxedos, trousers, etc)? Let us know in the comment!

A portrait of the Jazz Age!

It might be considered the right of passage for many high school students. Reading The Great Gatsby and discussing themes like the decline of the American dream in the 1920s and the hollowness of the wealthy has brought many to the world of the 1920s and 20th century literature. Plain and simple, it's a classic and now it's getting a new update from director Baz Luhrmann in the 2013 movie adaptation.

Right : Book cover
Left: Movie poster

This movie (release date Christmas 2013) might change the fashion zeitgeist, like the way Mad Men did for television and bring to life the decade know as the roaring twenties.

The glitz and glam of the wardrobe shown in the movie trailer reveal feathers, fringe, black tuxedo trousers, white dinner jackets, top hats and cloche hats, pleats, sparkle, glitter, head pieces, high-waist coats and low-waist dresses and bow ties.

The roaring twenties modern finds:

We remember reading this book in the 11th grade, oh the memories and are super excited about this movie! Are you excited? When was your first time reading this classic? Do you like the fashion of the 1920's? If not, what is your favorite decade? Let us know in the comments!
