Body image in the blogosphere

A recent article from International Fashion Bloggers (you can read it here) touched on the sensitive subject of body image in the blogging world as well as social media sites like Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr.

While bloggers in the blogosphere come from all walks of life and represent a vast range of shapes and sizes, it seems that the most popular bloggers or the top tier bloggers, who post personal style pictures, are thin. It's certainly not their fault and we're not hating on them because we love them just the same, but it makes us wonder if fuller figure/plus size bloggers get the same love.

These same issues are parallel to the modeling and fashion industries. More often than not, thin models make the covers and grace the runways and when a plus size model does make a cover or a fashion spread, it's like the sky is falling. The average size for an American women is 14, yet these magazine covers and runway shows don't really represent that.

One fashion blogger that does represents this is Gabifresh. She is a friend in our head and we love and admire her. She brings a fresh face to blogging (pun intended!) and breaks away from the traditional mold of the "ideal body" image. Her style speaks volumes and she wears outfits that "inspire others to take risks and have fun with clothing regardless of their size."

Gabifresh being fresh to the max!

What are your thoughts on body image in the blogging world? Do you think the blogging world and social media sites inspire healthy body images or hindered it? Do you know any other fashion bloggers that break away from the "ideal body" image?  Let us know in the comments, we'll love to hear your thoughts on this, weather you agree with us or not! Have a Fabulous Friday!

  5. *love*her! And hope the blogsphere and social media will come to the realization that it's best to just keep it real! I look forward to the day when there is more diversity in the fashion world and less of a need to photoshop, crop, and whatever else is going on...including a constant show of petite ladies.

    PS...this is a blog I like to read: http://www.beautyfash.com/

  6. Wow, I love her style, she is beautiful! Great post ladies!
I once fell on a Google Blog that had over 1500 followers. I hit "older post" a hundred times wondering what all the fuss was about. I tried to find something interesting, but every post was a photo of her showing off her body. Showing lots of skin, every so often writing about how perfect her body is and how much her man loves her now that she has boobs. I couldn't pick out one thing about her that was real, not her hair, eyelashes, eye color, skin color etc, but yet there are hundreds of encouraging compliments under every post. Why do people give into that crap!? 1500 followers!?

    1. Right! It's nice to have a huge blog following but it's okay if you don't either. We'll take followers who actually read our content and follow us because they like what we write rather than following just to follow. Instagram calls them the ghost followers, lol! We also think there are blogs out there that do copy other blogs and in the process they lose their voice. It's better to blog about what you like and find a following that is similar. Thanks for commenting Rachel.
