The 10 Commandments of Dressing

We came across this amazing book, Harper's Bazaar Great Style: Best Ways to Update Your Look, at Barnes and Nobles' clearance section for $5.00! It's one of the best style books we have read. This high gloss book is presented beautifully and will make a great addition to the coffee table.

If you're in a rut with your wardrobe, not sure what your style is or need a closet update, then this is the book for you. Even if you aren't, then this book is for you. There are amazing picture examples, practical advice and helpful tips.

We wanted to share a little bit with you all, so here are The 10 Commandments of Dressing presented in this book. It's something every fashionista can or should do. Enjoy!

 1. Know what you like and what you don't.

  1. I might just have to check out my Barnes and Noble to see if it's on clearance here, too. :) I'm still learning about style, but I think it's important to wear what makes you happy. :)

  9. I think I follow *some* fashion rules, like dressing approprite for an occasion, etc, but are there really any fashion rules any more? Before it was "red heads shouldn't wear red" "no white after Labor Day", and "match your bag to your shoes"...these days it seems like the only rule is that there isn't one!

    Great post!

    1. You make some good points! We think one of the best things about fashion is breaking the fashion rules and experimenting. If anything, the rules are more of a guideline in case you really need it. And then, when you do know what you're doing, breaking the fashion rules can become fun!

      Thanks Amber :)

  10. These are perfect tips for every fashionista! I especially love the one about not having to follow the trends. I'm so tired of seeing all these girls in the suburbs sport ridiculous looks because they feel it's "cool."

  13. All of these commandments for fashion make perfect sense. I definitely follow them as I dress in what feels comfortable and what represents my personal style and not someone else's style. Great post and great price on the book!

  14. I love this post. I need to take this list with me next time I shop because I'm guilty of all of the above... I recently bought(with a push from a friend) a sexy, tight, bootylicious dress for my Bachelorette party. It's mid thigh length, strapless and body-hugging black with some color blocking on the hip... Very cute, and with my 5 inch orange heels it's very hot. I'm so worried that I'm going to look like a you-know-what out on the town. My friends told me I couldn't look like a you-know-what If I tried, but it's screaming for attention. Va-va-voom! Should I just own it and be confident, or consider something else? Advice ladies?

    1. Hi Rachel and thank you!

We would say do what makes you feel comfortable but we have a feeling that advice won't cut it. So we say go for it!!! We're sure your friends don't want you to look like a you-know-what! It's your Bachelorette party and we're sure you'll want to feel and look sexy. Now, if you really do feel uncomfortable wearing the dress, try it with a cute blazer; Forever 21, H&M, Zara Target and even the thrift store have some nice affordable ones. A biker jacket is another way to go. Bright bikers are really hot right not and can go perfectly with your dress. If you Google bright biker jackets you will find many ways to rock the look! You can always put on and take of the jacket when you want to.

We hope this helped you out. Let us know how it goes! :)

    2. Rocked it. (The rum and cokes helped!) THANK you for the advice, although I didn't wear a cover up on the weekend, I will from now on. This isn't the type of dress I can wear out in my small town unless I play it down a bit with a biker jacket or blazer... :)

    3. We're glad you rocked it and you're very welcome Rachel!
