A portrait of the Jazz Age!

It might be considered the right of passage for many high school students. Reading The Great Gatsby and discussing themes like the decline of the American dream in the 1920s and the hollowness of the wealthy has brought many to the world of the 1920s and 20th century literature. Plain and simple, it's a classic and now it's getting a new update from director Baz Luhrmann in the 2013 movie adaptation.

This movie (release date Christmas 2013) might change the fashion zeitgeist, like the way Mad Men did for television and bring to life the decade know as the roaring twenties.

The glitz and glam of the wardrobe shown in the movie trailer reveal feathers, fringe, black tuxedo trousers, white dinner jackets, top hats and cloche hats, pleats, sparkle, glitter, head pieces, high-waist coats and low-waist dresses and bow ties.

The roaring twenties modern finds:

Beaded Flapper skirt
$22.80

Embellished Dropped Waist T- Shirt Dress
$93.93

Hooked on Fashion Dress
Hooked on fashion dress
$79.99

We remember reading this book in the 11th grade, oh the memories and are super excited about this movie! Are you excited? When was your first time reading this classic? Do you like the fashion of the 1920's? If not, what is your favorite decade? Let us know in the comments!

  8. I'm excited to see the movie because I really like the book and Baz. But I'm not loving the trailer...if it was a stand alone movie not based on a previous work I would but because it's supposed to be The Great Gatsby I'm already wary.

    1. It's funny you mentioned that. Some people don't like the trailer because of the music; it doesn't fit the 1920's at all. It's always hard for a book to be turned into a movie because most of the time the book is much better. We're still super excited too! :)

    1. We saw clips of the first one in high school of and of course it wasn't as dramatic and glamorous as the 2012 version.
