Men wearing sandals?

Do men wear sandals? Can men wear sandals? Should they wear sandals?
This topic has been debatable and questionable every time summer comes around. Some men consider it very feminine, others don't like showing their feet, and some think it just doesn't look right.

Whatever your personal preference is, like in fashion sometimes, there is always a "do" and "don't" way to pull off a look.

Don'ts:
1. Keep the hiking sandals for hiking. This type of shoe may be comfortable but function should never trump style (why do you think women put up with heels?).
source
2. Leave the sandals and socks for two and three year olds . The purpose of a sandal is to keep your feet cool so why pair it with socks anyway.

3. The granola sandal is meant for summer camp and in the comfort of your own home. Try a more sophisticated sandal with a more mature look.

4. The athletic slip-ons are best left for college students and in the shower at the gym.

Dos:
1. Do avoid bulky sandals. Summer is carefree and light, so your sandals should be too.

2. Splurge on quality. A good quality sandal can support your feet and last you for many summers to come.

3. Some men might be partial to this but do get a pedicure or at least take care of your feet. Treat yourself every once in a while, your feet will thank you for it.

4. Try a havaiana Brazil thong sandal. They inexpensive and come in many colors.

So the question is, is it unmanly for men to wear sandals or should we give them some fashion breathing room? Let us know your thoughts!

  5. Don't see an issue as long as you keep your feet clean and manicured. People wear them for thousands of years. Otherwise we'd just stop making them... Who exactly are making the new rules men can't wear them?

    1. We agree about keeping your feet clean and manicured and that goes for anybody, men and women. No one in particular are making these rules. We believe there really are no rules in fashion but merely guidelines if you need it. Some men see noting wrong with wearing sandals while others do. It's more of a personal preference.

  6. Came from a sub-tropical country so have no issue with people wearing any type of footwear unless you skin is too sensitive for sun exposure. Most Europeans and people from the tropics are used to wearing them.

College students you see athletic slip-ons, flip-flops & sports sandals. Think they care more about their studies than what they put on their feet as long as they get to class on time.

Go back to the 1980s in China you find most of the population wore sandals. Even some men wore feminine style with heels while riding bicycles we definitely think as over the line. Today the Chinese are much more conscious about fashion and always want to appear professional.

    1. You've made some really good points here! It really depends on where you live. You'll probably see more people in the tropics wearing sandals than in Alaska.

When we were in college we saw a lot of students wearing socks and athletic sandals. It's definitely was the college wardrobe.

That's very interesting about China. We didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!
